President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to build more stadia in Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to build more stadia in Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has said that his government is working on replicating the 10,000-capacity Tarkwa Stadium in other regions that lack such facilities.

The president stated that the stadium, which was built by GoldFields at a cost of about $13 million is very impressive.

President Mahama also questioned why government’s expenditure on stadiums is significantly higher compared to private organisations undertaking similar projects.

“Tarkwa GoldFields built a standard stadium for their football activities, and I was surprised to learn it cost about $13 million. When the Government of Ghana builds a stadium, it costs hundreds of millions of dollars.

“Those of you who have been to Tarkwa and seen the stadium will agree it’s a standard stadium that can accommodate about 10,000 people,” he said during the president’s media encounter on September 10, 2025.

The president further disclosed that he has ordered experts to study the GoldFields stadium project in Tarkwa and use a similar model to build more stadiums in other parts of the country.

“So, if GoldFields built it for $13 million, then the government should be able to do the same. We’ve asked them to find out the architect, the designers, and everyone who worked on the stadium, so that we can replicate it in other regions that don’t have stadiums,” he added.
