Head coach of the Sudanese national team, James Kwasi Appiah, has stated that no competent manager will allow his federation president or club chairman to influence squad selection.

According to him, it is not prudent for individuals within the club hierarchy to influence the selection of players because such actions have a negative impact on the team’s performance.

The former Black Stars coach noted that if the manager allows himself to be influenced and the team fails to excel, the manager will be blamed and not the one who manipulated decisions.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Appiah said he does not allow federation presidents to influence his player selection and would lose respect for such individuals.

“If you are a coach and let someone who says he is a club chairman, an agent, or president of the country tell you which players to select, then you are not a good coach.

“For me, even if you are the president, I will not have any respect for you again. If things go wrong, it is the name of the coach that they will mention,” he said in Twi.

Kwasi Appiah qualified war-torn Sudan for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco at the expense of Ghana.

The Ghanaian coach aims to make a bold statement at the tournament to cement his legacy.
