West Ham attacker, Mohammed Kudus, has stated that the elephant stool he sat on as part of his goal celebration against Brighton in the Premier League was meant to showcase Ghanaian culture to the world.

He indicated that the stool was made in Accra and was brought to him to be used for goal celebrations so the world would know about Ghana.

The player, who also plays in attacking position for the Black Stars of Ghana, also noted that the elephant stool symbolises the chairs used in various palaces by chiefs during discussions.

“I am happy to score; it is very important to help the team. The stool is from Ghana. I brought it from there. A lot of people do it, so, I brought it to show where I come from. The chiefs sit on a stool, so, that is why I sat on it. It is also meant to showcase my country’s culture,” he said in his post-match interview.

The Hammers created many chances, with a Bowen shot, which was punched out by the goalkeeper, before Kudus converted the rebound into the net to get the equaliser.

Brighton created more clear-cut chances, although they were all wasted, leading to the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The result means that West Ham lies 14th on the league table with 20 points, having had a poor start to the season.

After the December 2024 polls, there have been security concerns across the country. Catch Etsey Atisu’s interview with security analyst, Adib Saani, on Election Desk on GhanaWeb TV below:
