Ghanaian DJ and music producer DJ Slim has shared his thoughts on why Ghanaian artistes have yet to make a significant impact on global award platforms like the Grammys.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music on November 10, 2025, DJ Slim stated that Ghana’s creative industry continues to face challenges due to recurring patterns and inadequate investment compared to neighbouring countries.

“There’s a saying that only an insane person keeps doing the same thing and expects a different result. We keep repeating the same patterns, yet we expect something new to emerge, it doesn’t make sense,” he said.

According to him, although there has been an influx of external support in recent times, including international brands and record labels, the level of funding being invested in Ghana’s music ecosystem still falls short.

“What I feel is happening in the creative industry is that, recently, we’ve seen increased support, external eyes, international brands, and big record labels coming in to assist.

“However, the level of funding or money being injected into the system still doesn’t match what neighbouring countries are doing or how successful they’ve been in promoting their music industries,” he stated.

On the ongoing conversation about the Grammy Awards, DJ Slim noted that the prestigious award scheme was created for the US market and operates within that system, which limits Ghanaian artistes’ visibility.

He emphasised that while the Grammy brand carries global recognition, it is naturally designed to favour musicians within the US ecosystem, similar to how American artistes cannot win the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

“The Grammy conversation needs context. Although the Grammys are huge, the brand and reach primarily serve the U.S. market. Our system isn’t fully plugged into the US market, and our artistes and their sound aren’t visible there. This doesn’t mean our artistes lack talent,” he explained.
