The Ghana TVET Service has suspended three Heads of Technical Institutes over allegations of unauthorised fees collection and extortion in their respective schools.

The affected institutions are Agona Swedru Technical Institute in the Central Region, Sunyani Technical Institute in the Bono Region, and Madina Technical Institute in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the suspension was announced in a statement issued by the Ghana TVET Service on Monday, October 27, 2025.

“The allegations involve the imposition of several unapproved charges, including admission fees, boarding protocol payments, fees for changing residential status from day to boarding, fashion practical item charges, bedsheet payments, and PTA-related levies,” it said.

The management of TVET Service further explained that such practices contravene the government’s Free TVET Policy, which guarantees free access to technical and vocational education.

It described the conduct as a violation of its directive aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency in school admissions.

The report noted further that, “In response, the Service has set up investigative committees to conduct a thorough and impartial probe into the allegations. The composition of the committees will be announced in due course, and their findings will guide Management in determining further disciplinary measures.

“Pending the conclusion of investigations, the Heads of the three institutions have been placed on 30-day administrative leave with immediate effect.”

Subsequently, the 3 suspended heads have handed their duties over to the respective regional directors, who will oversee the day-to-day administration of the schools alongside their regular responsibilities.

The Ghana TVET Service reaffirmed its stance on corruption, extortion, and all forms of misconduct that affect the integrity of the TVET system.

“Management remains resolute in upholding accountability, transparency, and fairness in the management of Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions across Ghana,” the statement added.
