Ace sports journalist Saddick Adams, alias Sports Obama, has shed light on why the Ghana Football Association has not been able to confirm Dr. Randy Abbey as the chairman of the management committee of the Black Stars.

According to Saddick Adams, the overwhelming belief within the circles of the GFA is that Dr. Randy Abbey, who is a member of the Executive Council, is the ideal man for the position.

The belief from the FA hierarchy stems from their conviction that Dr. Abbey has a good rapport with most of the players and that some of the issues facing the team would have been addressed with him in charge.

However, the FA and its members are unable to officially confirm Dr. Randy Abbey as the head of the management committee of the Black Stars.

“What our sources have been telling us is that the government does not want Dr. Randy Abbey to be chairman of the Black Stars management committee. Officials of the FA also want him around the team because they believe he has a great relationship with the players. Officially, they can’t appoint him because of the position of the government,” he said.

Saddick Adams was responding to the decision by some eight Black Stars players to withdraw from the squad for the games against Angola and Niger.

According to ghanafa.org, some of the players include Inaki Williams, who is reported to have picked up a hamstring injury, as well as Tariq Lamptey, who is also experiencing calf discomfort and is undergoing rehabilitation.

Others include Antoine Semenyo, who is nursing a tendon injury due to an overload of games at Bournemouth, Besiktas defender Alexander Djiku, who has aggravated an existing hamstring injury, and Ibrahim Osman, who is said to have picked up a hamstring injury as well.

Jeremy Poku and Jonas Adjetey are reported to be recovering from injuries they sustained, with Joseph Paintsil withdrawing from the squad due to personal reasons.

The Black Stars will play Angola in Luanda on November 15 before hosting Niger in the final game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on November 18, 2024.
