President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to nullify the results of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries, on grounds of “naked bribery” and a blatant disregard for electoral integrity.

The primaries, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, has been rocked by allegations that candidates distributed cash and “goodies” to influence delegates.

In a post shared on social media, Cudjoe urged the NDC to hold itself to a higher moral standard than its opponents.

“The NDC should annul the Ayawaso East elections and punish culprits who violated the electoral code. The results were influenced by naked bribery. NDC, be different!” Cudjoe shared on his Facebook page on February 7, 2026.

In a swift response to the burgeoning scandal, President John Dramani Mahama has officially recalled Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.

Baba Jamal wins NDC parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso East

Baba Jamal won the primary with 431 votes (45%) against Hajia Amina Adam’s 399 votes (41%), found himself at the center of the storm.

While multiple candidates were accused of vote-buying, the Presidency clarified that Baba Jamal’s position as a high-ranking public officer necessitated immediate action.

A statement released by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained that the recall serves to protect the government’s image regarding transparency.

The Presidency noted that while various contestants faced allegations, Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among them.

The move signals a hardline stance against officials using their influence or state-adjacent resources to sway internal party contests.

The thin margin between the two main contenders—only 32 votes—has further fueled arguments that the reported “goodies” and cash distributions were decisive in securing Baba Jamal’s victory.

The NDC leadership has yet to officially respond to Cudjoe’s call for an annulment, but the recall of a sitting diplomat has already cast a long shadow over the validity of the Saturday February 7, polls.
