Papa Shee said some family members of Daddy Lumba say the burial must be postponed
Former Highlife musician–turned–preacher Papa Shee has explained why the advertised December 13, 2025 date for Daddy Lumba’s funeral will not hold, citing several unresolved issues that he said some family members want addressed first.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on November 22, 2025, Papa Shee said some family members of the late musician had told him the burial could not take place on the advertised date because key processes, including an autopsy and investigations into the cause of death, were still outstanding.

He added that some of Daddy Lumba’s children were currently writing exams and might not be able to attend a December funeral.
“As God lives, since we have not done the autopsy, since we have not done investigations to know the cause of his demise, and his kids are even writing exams, on the 13th it will not be held. It will be held in March,” he said.
Billboards announcing a December 13, 2025, funeral at the Baba Yara Stadium have already gone up in Accra, but Papa Shee stressed that the final decision rests with the musician’s immediate family.
He described himself only as a spokesperson, not a decision-maker.
According to him, relatives, including Ernestina Fosu and Yaw Poku, had rejected December 13 as unsuitable.
He added that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, does not impose funeral dates but approves those proposed by families.
“Otumfuo is a just king; he does not issue dates for funerals to be held. You rather submit your date to him, then he gives you the approval. So, our sister (Akosua Brempongmaa) invoked the oath. She said December 13 was not favourable to her. She confided in me that the 13th of December was not favourable to her, so let’s meet the leaders again.
“So, I am not deciding when the date will be done. I just returned from a trip, and they have informed me of what will happen. So Akosua Brempongmaa(Ernestina Fosu), his uncle Yaw Poku, and the family are saying the 13th of December is not favourable to them,” he stated.
The late Daddy Lumba’s family has been embroiled in internal disagreements since his passing on July 26, 2025, at age 60.
