After the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) installed new meters, Ghanaians recently complained that their electricity bills had increased.

Since they have to treble their expenses just to keep the lights on, this is a problem that both individuals and the business sector have voiced.

Ghanaians recently complained that their electricity rates had gone up after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) placed new meters.

Both individuals and the business sector have expressed concern over this issue, since they must triple their spending simply to keep the lights on.

He said the way to solve this issue of high electricity costs is to use solar power to create electricity.

To cut electricity costs by half, the NPP flagbearer promised to build solar farms in every district.

Ghana has enough sunlight, he said, to generate solar energy for Ghanaians.

“I want to propose a policy to address the increase in our electrical cost. Because we import gas and oil to generate power, the expense has gone up. Therefore, I want us to create electricity using solar power,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“To combat the rise in our electricity costs, I would want to suggest a policy. We import oil and gas to produce electricity, so the cost has increased. Therefore, Dr. Bawumia stated, “I want us to use solar power to create electricity.”

“We have enough sunlight to generate solar power, and the technology is currently available. In order to cut the price of electricity by half, I would establish solar farms in every district,” he continued.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) claims that the meter replacement project is a component of its Loss Reduction Programme (LRP), an effort to enhance energy accounting and make smart meter installation easier.

With the new meters, customers will no longer have to deal with billing inconsistencies, system losses, and inaccurate readings.

According to reports, they have anti-tampering features that help prevent unauthorized connections and lessen losses from electrical theft.
