Black Stars defender, Caleb Yirenkyi reportedly turned down a last minute move to the English Premier League during the January transfer window.

According to Viaplay, the 20-year-old attracted strong interest from England, with an unnamed Premier League club submitting a bid worth €18 million on the transfer deadline.

While Nordsjaelland initially confirmed rejecting the offer, fresh reports indicate that the player himself played a key role in the decision.

Viaplay reported that Yirenkyi turned down the move to prioritise regular playing time, which he believes is vital to improving his chances of earning a spot in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, is a major target for the highly rated defender, who is eager to continue his development in an environment where he is guaranteed consistent minutes.

Although the identity of the Premier League club remains undisclosed, the size of the bid underlines Yirenkyi’s growing reputation in European football and the rapid rise he has enjoyed since breaking into the Nordsjaelland first team.

The Ghana international has made 39 appearances for the Danish outfit, scoring three goals and providing six assists, and has 4 more years on his contract.

Yirenkyi has already featured eight times for the Black Stars and will be hoping to be part of the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
