Prosper Narteh Ogum was a coach of Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko‘s decision to part ways with head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum just a few games before the end of the season has sparked widespread discussion among fans and analysts alike.

While official statements have been limited, the club’s Communications Director, Samuel Sarfo Duku, has provided insight into the circumstances surrounding Ogum’s departure.

In an interview with the club’s newspaper, Daily Porcupine, Duku discussed the factors that led to this significant change in the club’s leadership, exploring the internal dynamics and decisions that culminated in Ogum’s exit.

According to Duku, the club granted Ogum full control over player recruitment, with management providing the necessary support.

However, as the players struggled to perform, Duku emphasised that the responsibility for improving the team’s performance lay with the technical team, particularly the coach.

In essence, the poor results were viewed as a reflection of Ogum’s inability to maximize the potential of his squad, ultimately leading to his departure.

“We gave him complete freedom to recruit players of his choice, so if the players aren’t performing and management is doing its part, and it’s clear that the issue is performance-related, who is responsible for improving the team’s results? It is the technical team,” he said.

Despite this setback, Duku reassured fans that the club remains committed to securing trophies by the end of the season, promising to do everything possible to stay on track for success.

“We will continue to do our utmost to win the double, as promised. As I speak to you now, we are still on pace, even though it has become a bit difficult, especially with the league title. We had led for weeks, but now we’ve lost the top spot, trailing by a six-point margin,” he added.
