Entertainment pundit, Nana Frimpong Ziega

Broadcaster and entertainment analyst Nana Frimpong Ziega has challenged the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) board over its selection criteria for the Most Popular Song of the Year category.

Speaking on Neat FM, Ziega questioned why hit songs from gospel stars Empress Gifty and Diana Hamilton, as well as the collaboration between Rap Fada and King Paluta, were excluded from the category.

The current nominees include KiDi, Black Sherif, Olivetheboy, King Promise, King Paluta, and Stonebwoy.

“Why aren’t Empress Gifty and Diana Hamilton listed? What about Rap Fada and King Paluta’s song?” Ziega asked.

“A popular song is commonplace; you don’t need data to know it’s big. I never downloaded Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ or Empress Gifty’s ‘Watch Me,’ yet they were everywhere,” he argued.

He criticised the board’s reliance on technical metrics, arguing that true popularity is organic and widely recognized.

“What’s with all these technicalities and explanations? If a song dominates the streets, churches, and events, it’s popular, period,” he stated.
