Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo

The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has expressed dissatisfaction with individuals, especially from the opposition NPP, over the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s fugitive declaration on Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking on TV3’s The Keypoints, and monitored by GhanaWeb on February 15, 2025, Edudzi Tameklo disagreed with the opinions of the NPP, stating that the OSP’s declaration by Kissi Agyebeng on Ken Ofori-Atta is lawful.

He emphasised that if President John Dramani Mahama could be investigated under the Akufo-Addo administration, then Ken Ofori-Atta could also be investigated for corruption.

“What exactly is the issue? Is it the issue that Ken Ofori-Atta is under investigation or the declaration that he is a fugitive or wanted? Which of them is their problem? Is he above being declared wanted or investigated… Who is Ken Ofori-Atta?

“In the overall scheme of affairs, a former president of the republic can be investigated based on a petition by Nana Addo Dankwa himself. Who the hell is Ken Ofori-Atta?” he said.

Edudzi Tameklo’s statement comes in reaction to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) declaring Ken Ofori-Atta, a former Minister of Finance, a fugitive from justice on February 12, 2025.

The former minister was being investigated for alleged corruption and corruption-related offences.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, in a press conference, said some of the offences being investigated were contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Other offences include the termination of a Distribution, Loss Reduction, and Associated Network Improvement Project contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC), and the procurement of contractors and materials.
