WBC #3 ranked light heavyweight Ben Whittaker made his second straight blow-out performance as he dropped hard-hitting Argentine Braian Suarez in the first for the full count. Whittaker smoothly navigated his way around the crude KO artist until he had an opening, dropping an overhand right high on the temple of Suarez, sending him staggering down in a heap on his side. Suarez motioned to the back of his head, claiming he was hit there. Referee Steve Grey paid no mind, reaching the count of ten at 2:24 of the opening stanza. Whittaker improves to 11-0-1, 8 KOs, while Suarez falls to 21-5, 20 KOs.
Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn stated that Whittaker will next see action in Brooklyn, NY on the Xander Zayas – Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis show, June 27 at the Barclays Center.
