Kofi Adams is the Minister of Sports and Recreation

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has faced intense criticisms from football fans over his statement that three West African countries could potentially host the World Cup.

The minister proposed that, given the current World Cup format, Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast could jointly host the tournament in the future.

He argued that the format of three nations co-hosting reduces the financial burden on the countries, and therefore West Africa could do the same, just as the United States, Canada, and Mexico are set to host the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast can host the FIFA World Cup – Sports minister Kofi Adams

The remark sparked fury on social media, where football fans ridiculed and lambasted the minister for speaking without conducting in-depth research, insisting it would take several decades for such an idea to materialize.

Some pointed out that Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast lack the world-class infrastructure required to meet the standards necessary to host such a competition.

Others noted that Ghana does not even have a single stadium with a 50,000-seat capacity, questioning the seriousness of pursuing such a project.

Disgruntled fans urged Kofi Adams to focus on pushing the government to invest in sports infrastructure and proper railway systems before envisioning such an ambitious idea.
