Ghanaian walking artist and activist GlennSamm has clapped back at critics over his refusal to participate in the revived #GalamseyMustFall campaign, which has been gaining momentum on social media.

GlennSamm, renowned for his body-painted protest art, was among the 54 #StopGalamseyNow protesters who were arrested and detained by police on September 22 and 23, 2024, during a demonstration against illegal mining, a practice that has severely polluted water bodies across the country.

After being held for several days and arraigned in court, the protesters were granted bail, and the charges were eventually dropped.

However, with the galamsey menace still ongoing, there have been renewed calls for the new John Dramani Mahama administration to take decisive action, with a protest held in Accra on April 28, 2025.

The renewed protests have sparked criticism from some quarters, accusing GlennSamm and other former activists of remaining silent this time around, with insinuations of political bias.

In a sharp response on X (formerly Twitter) on April 29, 2025, GlennSamm (real name Samuel Glenn Semakor) dismissed the accusations, stating:

“When we protested, they claimed we were paid. Now, as I sit here counting my losses and dealing with my mental health, you still won’t let me be. Mmoa (fools).”

He further mocked the latest campaigners, writing, “Mmoa again, why did they give up so easily? We were just 60, yet we made it happen. Now, all I hear is empty talk.”
