    British Nigerian writer and Fashion blogger Chidera Eggerue has sparked a debate online after she stated that encouraging a woman to marry is like encouraging a woman to her death.

    Chidera had mentioned this during a debate at Cambridge University, where she argued that marriage is inherently oppressive.

    To back the point she had raised about ‘encouraging a woman to marry is like encouraging a woman to her death,’ she said that men are a woman’s apex predator.

    According to Chidera, marriage has only been beneficial to men, and just maybe when women start benefitting from it, only then will she encourage women to get married.

    She also emphasized on the fact that the way the marriage institution is designed to benefit and service men is the reason why married men have longer life spans than women.

    In her words;

    “If I were to get married to a man, I would only be marrying a man who’s putting land, properties, and assets in my name. The idea that a woman would want security when we know that men are unreliable. Not only are they unreliable they are a woman’s apex predator. That’s right. The man you are laying with could kill you. Unless we are encouraging women to get married with their best interests at heart. Women are taught to approach marriage from a place of leading with emotion which is to distract us because if we put our emotions aside and focus on the logic and rationale most women will not marry men.”
