A courtroom in Kumasi has become the latest stage in the dispute between comic actors Yaw Dabo and Oboy Siki, with Dabo seeking GH¢1 million in damages over comments he insists have tarnished his name.

In documents before the High Court, the actor and football club owner argues that a string of remarks attributed to Oboy Siki went beyond banter and into defamation. He maintains that the statements targeted both his personal life and his work in football administration, exposing him to scorn and damaging his public reputation.

Among the allegations referenced in the suit are claims that Oboy Siki questioned Dabo’s ability to impregnate a woman. The writ also cites descriptions of him as selfish and “not man enough” to marry. Dabo further contends that his capability as a football administrator was unfairly attacked.

When the matter was called on February 23, 2026, his lawyer, Diana, updated the court on the status of the case and later addressed reporters.

She indicated that after the writ of summons was served, the defendants failed to take the procedural steps required by law.

“Defamation action is not imprisonment or a penalty. When we served them the writ of summons, they did not enter an appearance. They did not inform the court that they had been served, and they did not bring their defence,” she said.

According to Lawyer Diana, consultations with her client led to a firm decision to press ahead, prompting an application for the case to proceed in the absence of any defence.

That position shifted at the most recent sitting. She explained that following discussions initiated by counsel for the defendant and GHPage, her client agreed to pull back the application to allow room for dialogue.

“Today, when we came to court, the application we filed for the matter to proceed had to be withdrawn. The defendant’s lawyer and GHPage’s lawyer suggested that we should resolve the matter calmly, so we withdrew the case from court. That is what the court has granted,” she explained.

The parties are now expected to engage in talks before the case returns to court.

“We will return to court, but we are giving them some time. Whatever they come up with and whatever Yaw Dabo decides, that is what we will rely on in court the next time we appear,” the lawyer explained.
