The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on August 5,2025, confirmed seizing a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale.
The seizure is linked to an international fraud case involving a US-based Ghanaian, Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a jail term in the United States.
The entire discussions surrounding Shatta Wale and the Lamborghini has since been trending online amidst massive reactions from netizens.
Meanwhile let’s take you through the chronology of events so far.
What happened?
Shatta Wale accused the Economic and Organised Crimes Office of an unprovoked armed raid in his residence.
In a post shared on his Facebook timeline on August 5, 2025, the Dancehall artiste called out the Executive Director of EOCO, Raymond Archer, for leading the armed raid, adding that Archer’s actions would cost the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) its seat in government.
“Raymond Archer, EOCO boss, ibe you go make NDC go out of power next 4 years. Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for!!!” he posted.
He further lambasted Archer, accusing him of harassing Ghanaian citizens.
“EOCO boss, the President of Ghana didn’t put you in that office to come and humiliate the citizens of this country… remember, God no go sleep!!” he added.
EOCO’s response
In a press release dated August 5, 2025, EOCO said its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit retrieved the luxury vehicle from Shatta Wale’s residence at Trassaco Valley Phase 1 in Accra. The operation was conducted in June after a request from the FBI and the US Department of Justice.
The car is said to be connected to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian serving an 86-month prison sentence in the US for financial crimes.
Also, a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request is expected to be soon sent to the Ghanaian government to return the car to the US as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution.
EOCO’s claims to have allowed a private surrender, contrary to what Shatta Wale said
EOCO explained that the seizure was conducted lawfully and without confrontation. The agency said Shatta Wale requested privacy to protect his brand, and so he was allowed to surrender the vehicle voluntarily rather than having it taken publicly.
Ongoing investigations (Shatta named as a person of interest)
EOCO has named Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) as persons of interest in the case.
Both individuals will be invited to assist in ongoing investigations.
Shatta Wale’s response
After EOCO released its statement, Shatta Wale went live on TikTok to share his side of the story.
He claimed he bought the Lamborghini through a third party for $150,000 and had no idea about its background or who shipped it to Ghana.
“I bought the Lamborghini for $150,000 and didn’t know it was from Adu Boahene. I’m leaving the car for you people. Don’t come to my house, and let nobody invite me,” Shatta Wale said.
He further disclosed that during a meeting with EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, he was told the car had a bad history in the US.
“Raymond Archer told me in his office that someone was shot in the Lamborghini in the US, and that’s what scared me,” Shatta Wale alleged.
According to him, Archer also warned that the former NSB officer, identified as Adu Boahene, was in trouble and hinted that Shatta Wale could be implicated if he did not provide information about where the officer’s other cars were hidden.
“Raymond Archer told me Adu Boahene is going down, and if I want to go down with him, I should let him know,” Shatta Wale claimed during the live video.
The Dancehall musician also denied having any connection with Nana Kwabena Amuah, the man currently in prison in the US.
