The World English Scrabble Players Championship (WESPAC 2025) will take place in Accra from November 10 to 16, 2025.

This prestigious event will bring together top Scrabble players from around the globe to compete for the World Scrabble Championship title.

The championship is organised by the Scrabble Association of Ghana in conjunction with World English.

The president of the Scrabble Association of Ghana, Captain Haruna Adamu, called on the public to support the event to make it a success.

“We saw that Kenya is the only black nation to have hosted the Scrabble tournament, so we can also do it. This is our Olympics, and with this event coming to Ghana, there is no doubt in my mind that this is the Super Bowl of seven-letter words.

“My fellow Scrabble players here, I hope you are not going to disgrace us. We are trying to host and win here,” he said during the launch of the event on September 18, 2025.

The Chairman of the WESPAC Local Organizing Committee, Gaddy Laryea also stated that Scrabble helps to improve cognitive skills and called on corporate bodies to support the competition.

“It helps with strategic thinking. It has also improved my wealth and time management. I encourage all of us to support this championship together. To our next generation, I encourage them to embrace the game to discover creativity, discipline, and confidence.

“To those not yet on board, this is your moment. We invite corporate organisations and companies. Your support will not only bring success but will also leave a lasting legacy,” he noted.

A total of 45 countries will be attending this year’s championship, with 369 players expected in Ghana.

Charles Tachie-Menson from Ghana finished in eighth place at the championship in 2023.

The current World Champion is Australia’s David Eldar.
