Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has established that the 2026 budget must be a key tool for transforming Ghana’s economy and reducing dependence on external support.

Speaking at a Post-Budget Workshop in Accra on Saturday,November 15,, 20255, he described the budget as a roadmap for self-reliance and long-term growth.

“A common refrain echoes across Africa: ‘Africa is not poor, it is poorly managed, and the budget is the clearest expression of that management.’ At this pivotal moment, our budget must serve as a primary instrument for transforming Ghana’s economic paradigm,” Bagbin said.

He noted that the policies in the budget should focus on building a resilient, domestically driven economy.

“The policies contained in this budget must steer us away from dependency towards a resilient, domestically driven economy. Honorable members, data tells a clear and urgent story. Reform cannot wait,” Bagbin said.

The budget needs clear metrics on poverty and inequality – Prof Bokpin

The 2026 budget outlines measures to strengthen local industries, increase revenue mobilization, create jobs, invest in infrastructure and social services, and promote innovation and private sector growth.
