Leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, has questioned why members of the now-opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are overly scared and worried about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee.

His comments follow a call by the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament urging individuals invited by the ORAL Committee to assist in investigations into alleged corrupt activities to boycott the invitations. According to the Minority, the committee lacks the legal mandate to investigate corruption-related offenses, as there are constitutionally established institutions tasked with such matters.

Speaking at a press briefing in Parliament on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, declared that the NPP MPs would not honor any invitation from the ORAL Committee.

“Our advice to you from the Minority is to boycott any invitation from the ORAL team. We are not going to be part of it because we believe that there are constitutionally established bodies to investigate any so-called misdeeds for the government.

“What they (ORAL) are doing is going around disturbing people, entering homes, seizing vehicles, and, more or less, taking over lands from individuals who have genuinely purchased them,” he stated.

In an interview on Joy Prime, monitored by GhanaWeb, Kwame Jantuah said that the NPP members should not have a problem with ORAL if they have nothing to hide.

“What do the NPP have to fear? What are they scared of that prevents them from attending if they are invited? How did ORAL start? It was President-elect Mahama who decided that he needed to gather information before being sworn in so that he could provide it to the appropriate institutions. If you have nothing to hide, you have no problem. And if you know you’ve done something wrong, quickly return the land to them. If it’s money you’ve taken, quickly return the money. You know, in Ghana, politicians work together.

“I know people in the last NPP administration who held positions and were being chased. When the NPP came into power, they left this country, but they are now back. Do you know how they got back? They paid their way through.”
