Former Deputy Director of the Ghana Tourist Development Company, Akua Djanie, popularly known as Blakofe, has stated that she fears for her life following a confrontation with the security of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Blakofe, a renowned Ghanaian fashion designer, revealed that security guards confronted her over a video she posted, in which she lamented the blockage of the road leading to the former president’s private residence.

According to her, the guards defended the blockade, claiming it had been approved by the John Dramani Mahama administration.

“So earlier today I was in Nima, and I had to walk past Akufo-Addo’s house. Now, whenever you walk past, you see that there are always loads of guys outside. I only assume they are security. One of the guys called me… so I stopped and he came over and he asked me, why did you do that video of Akufo-Addo and the barrier here? You’re making us look bad.

“I said to him, ‘Do you think it’s right for Akufo-Addo to block the road so neighbours and people can’t access the road?’ And he basically told me that it’s a protocol from the government. He said, It’s the current government who has given Akufo-Addo the protocol to block his road forever because he was once president,” she said in a viral video.

She added, “So I asked him why that wasn’t the case for Kufuor and Rawlings. He said, because of where Akufo-Addo lives, the government have decided that he will have this barrier there forever and neighbours can never access the road again.”

Blakofe said the conversation quickly became heated, leading to a shouting match between her and the security guard who was questioning her.

She added that she now fears the possibility of being attacked by the guards.

“I have business in Akufo-Addo’s area, so I go there a lot. But the thing is, now how safe am I? Because now these guys are attacking me for saying, remove the barrier, so maybe next time they’ll follow me. And if they attack me, who knows?” she said.

She reiterated, “Because at the end of the day, it doesn’t make sense to block the road. And me saying it has led to the security at Akufo-Addo’s house now coming to me when they see me on the street. So next time would they follow me somewhere and attack me?”
