The Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah Nyarko, has cast serious doubts on the government’s commitment to fighting corruption, accusing the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine., of allowing the Operation Recover All Loot Committee (ORAL) to fade into silence and uncertainty.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Effia MP questioned why there has been no public update, no prosecution, and no transparency on the over 2,000 corruption cases reportedly submitted for review.
Why the AG is taking his time on ORAL cases – Yendi MP explains
“The government promised that ORAL would bring accountability and recover looted state assets. But today, there’s nothing; no progress report, no case update, nothing for Ghanaians to hold on to,” Boamah Nyarko lamented.
He challenged the Attorney General to clarify whether ORAL was ever a genuine anti-corruption mechanism or merely a political spectacle launched to impress voters during the 2024 Election.
“We were made to believe this was the administration’s boldest anti-corruption initiative. Yet, ten months on, the silence is deafening. Either the Attorney General has something to hide, or the government exaggerated what ORAL could achieve,” he said.
Mixed reactions trail ORAL prosecutions
The legislator warned that the credibility of the entire anti-corruption agenda now hangs in the balance, adding that the Attorney General’s continued silence only deepens public suspicions of deliberate cover-up.
“When you promise Ghanaians justice and transparency, you cannot go missing in action. The Attorney General must speak up or risk losing public confidence in his office and the entire justice system,” he stressed.
Boamah Nyarko also accused the government of inconsistency, pointing out that Dr Ayine has been quick to brief the media on other legal matters but has remained evasive on ORAL’s progress.
“If the Attorney General can speak boldly on other cases, why the sudden quiet on ORAL? What are they hiding?” he questioned.
He called for the immediate release of a detailed public report on ORAL’s operations, including the number of cases investigated, those deemed prosecutable, and any assets recovered.
“The people of Ghana deserve to know the truth. ORAL was announced with fanfare, but its silence has become suspicious. Was it truly created to fight corruption, or was it just another political illusion?” he added.
The Operation Recover All Loot Committee (ORAL) was established by President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and retrieve looted state assets.
The committee has since presented its final report to the president.
Chairman of the ORAL Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed that a total of 2,417 complaints were received during the period of its operation, comprising 1,493 calls made through toll-free lines and 924 emails submitted by the public.
