Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to vaccine access, pharmaceutical innovation, and long-term health sector transformation during a speech at the Government Accountability Series forum earlier today.

“This year, we increased the budget for vaccines by 46%. As of today, we have fully paid Ghana’s US$24.5 million commitment to GAVI,” the Minister announced, stressing the urgent need to avoid shortages that have previously triggered vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks.

Akandoh said Ghana will receive hundreds of thousands of vaccine doses by August 2025, ready for nationwide distribution. “Investing in our children’s health today is securing Ghana’s tomorrow,” he noted.

Looking ahead, he pledged continued investments to expand immunisation, with a vision to protect every child and build a stronger, healthier nation.

Beyond vaccines, the Minister revealed that plans are well underway to enhance Ghana’s capacity in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing.

“We will continue to build partnerships and mobilise resources to strengthen research, development, and regulatory capacities.

These are not just plans on paper – they are the foundation of a healthier, stronger Ghana today and for generations to come,” he emphasized.

The Minister ended his remarks with gratitude to healthcare workers and all stakeholders for their role in achieving the current milestones.

“The progress we’ve made so far is a testament to the dedication of our health teams, partners, communities, and ultimately, the government’s vision,” Akandoh said.

“Together, we will continue to deliver quality healthcare to every Ghanaian.”
