According to Malik Basintale, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) deputy communication officer, two NPP government appointees were “caught” trying to escape Ghana.
A comprehensive probe into the conduct of officials from the departing Nana Addo administration has been demanded by a number of Ghanaians following the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections. There is a strong desire among the populace to hold corrupt officials accountable.
Hopeson Adorye, a former NPP member, recently posted on social media that he intended to “hijack” the airport in order to stop any present government officials from departing the nation. In order to expose many corrupt practices, including claims of theft while in office, he is taking the audacious step of making sure these individuals are present for the swearing-in of the new government.
Furthering the discussion, Malik Basintale made the point that present government officials shouldn’t believe they can get away with it. On social media, he stated unequivocally that they would not be able to go safely unless they were able to “escape on eagle backs.” Declaring that these officials must answer to the Ghanaian people seems to be an example of him upholding accountability.
He ended his post with a triumphant message: “Remain composed. Two have already been captured! The entire quote is as follows: “There is no room for them again around any border unless they flee on eagle’s backs.” Hold your cool. There are already two of us?
Signifying a new era of accountability and openness in Ghanaian governance, the NDC has stated that it is dedicated to making sure that those who have abused their positions suffer the repercussions of their conduct.
