Over the years, many creatives have bemoaned that many Ghanaians prefer foreign content instead of supporting their own.

However, the narrative is changing in 2024 as popular Ghanaian artiste Mr Drew has expressed his appreciation for the increasing support of Ghanaian music.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, Mr Drew noted the massive crowds at many shows held by artistes as well as many Ghanaian songs leading streaming platforms.

When asked if this indicates that Ghanaians are finally beginning to support their own, the ‘E Choke’ hitmaker replied, “Yeah, I think that it’s about time. We are there for the people. All we need is their support and their love, and then we go.”

Mr Drew emphasized that while the support is not yet at its peak, it is steadily improving.

“It’s not there yet. But it’s getting better,” he noted.

The artiste said this at the Fameye Family Concert hosted by Highlife artiste Fameye on December 20, 2024, in Accra.

The event saw a host of up-and-coming as well as top-notch artistes including KiDi, Sista Afia, Eno Barony, Ras Kuuku, Kofi Mole, and Fameye himself tantalize the massive crowd with their hit songs.

Speaking on his reasons for joining, Mr Drew noted that it was a form of support for his colleague and friend, Fameye.

We’re all supporting each other. We came to support Fameye, and it’s an amazing vibe. I love the setup, everything,” he said.

He noted that it was not easy to set up such an event financially; thus, Fameye needs all the support he could get.

“Most of the time, the money comes from our own pockets. But it’s all about our love for the fans and for the work.”
