This Ghanaian bettor urges President Mahama to scrap the Betting Tax This Ghanaian bettor urges President Mahama to scrap the Betting Tax

A Ghanaian bettor has urged President John Dramani Mahama to abolish the Betting Tax, citing its negative impact on their finances.

According to him, the 10% deduction from bet winnings affects their earnings, as they don’t receive the full amount they’re supposed to get.

The individual believes that scrapping the Betting Tax will help Mahama maintain the support of the youth, who contributed to his victory in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with Benjamin Sackey on GhanaWeb TV’s Sports Debate program, the man warned that the NDC will suffer consequences if President Mahama does not honor his promise.

“The tax should be totally scrapped to allow us to earn our rightful income. This will significantly improve our living situation. President Mahama should abolish it without hesitation.

“If he does, the youth will always support him. However, if he fails to cancel it, the consequences will be similar to what happened to the NPP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister-designate for Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has promised to abolish the Betting Tax, citing its ineffectiveness in preventing youth involvement in betting.

Ato Forson clarified that removing the tax won’t significantly impact Ghana’s economy, considering the revenue it generates.
