John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, has reiterated his intention to enact strict policies that will help the country recover.
The president-elect emphasized the importance of these strict measures during the next four years in an address following the announcement of his victory on Monday, December 9.
“We would be initiating important governance reforms, and sometimes initiate severe measures in the next four years to reset our nation and bring it back on track as the Black star of Africa.”
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, on Monday, December 9, declared Mr Mahama the winner, with a total of 6,328,397 votes. Dr. Bawumia received 4,657,304 votes.
Mahama’s party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), achieved a historic success by gaining a majority in the Parliament.
According to the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, the party has so far won 185 parliamentary seats.
