A rally organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, took a dramatic turn on Saturday when Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was booed by a group of teenage attendees. The event, which was supposed to highlight the party’s accomplishments and announce future goals, instead became a platform for the youth to express their unhappiness with unfulfilled promises and worsening economic conditions.

The gathering, mostly young people, expressed dissatisfaction with ongoing unemployment, stalled infrastructure projects, and rising living costs. Many people wanted actual answers instead of political posturing. One attendee strongly confronted Dr. Bawumia, saying, “We’ve supported you for years, but we now expect action. “No more broken promises. Chants of “We need solutions, not speeches!” accentuated the emotion.

Akosua, a university graduate and one of the most prominent critics, slammed the government’s failure to deliver on job development commitments, calling repeated guarantees into question. Her statements reflected the general dissatisfaction of the audience, many of whom felt their issues were being neglected.

In response, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the complaints and cited initiatives such as the Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund as examples of the government’s efforts to solve economic difficulties. He reassured participants that the administration was committed to resolving their difficulties. However, mistrust remained, with many seeking precise timeframes and demonstrable results, particularly as the 2024 elections approached.

The event underlined a growing need for accountability and tangible outcomes from the administration, including in NPP strongholds.
