NPP's General Secretatry Justin Frimpog Kodua NPP’s General Secretatry Justin Frimpog Kodua

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has thrown its weight behind traders at Adum Market in Kumasi, who have expressed their desire to lead the reconstruction of their stalls following a devastating fire outbreak.

The party cautioned that relying solely on government intervention could lead to unnecessary delays.

Speaking after the NPP donated GHC 100,000 to the affected traders, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, acknowledged the traders’ proactive stance and affirmed the NPP’s support for their efforts.

“The market women have agreed to come in and help rather than waiting for the government to lead the process, and we in the NPP support that cause,” he said.

Kodua further assured the traders and the people of Asanteman that the party remained committed to their welfare, regardless of whether it was in government or opposition.

“We know our flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, and other dignitaries will be visiting, but we can assure the good people of this market and Asanteman that the NPP will never turn its back on them. Even in opposition, we have managed to raise funds to support them.”

He also used the opportunity to urge the government to take immediate steps to assist the traders financially, suggesting that a seed fund be set up to facilitate the rebuilding process.

“We are pleading with the government to do the same here by setting up seed money to support the market men and women.”

The Adum Market fire left several traders counting significant losses, with many struggling to resume business.

Meanwhile, watch as Adum traders hoot at interior minister, reject 1,500 bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil bolow:
