The Head Coach of Medeama FC, Ibrahim Tanko, has expressed dissatisfaction with how some fans express passion in the Ghana Premier League.

In an interview with 3 Sports, shared on social media on February 16, 2025, Ibrahim Tanko noted that some fans in the Ghana Premier League do not understand the game side of football.

He emphasised that some fans treat football in the country as a life-and-death affair, hence there should be mass education in the GPL by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“We take the football game like it’s life and death, and I don’t understand because football is a sport where you can win, lose, or draw. If you play an away game in some club venues, they want to win by all means. I think the education must be more in the clubs. In Germany, the supporters know what they want, but that is not the case in Ghana,” he said.

Ibrahim Tanko further noted that the security personnel provided to protect players and football officials are mostly idle when there is chaos.

“Most of the time, if you go to football venues, you would see a policeman sitting and watching his phone throughout the 90 minutes. He is not concentrating on guiding people. I think they should be professional in protecting referees, fans, and players so that we would have peace in our game,” he added.

Ibrahim Tanko‘s comment comes in response to an Asante Kotoko supporter who was stabbed during a game against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.
