Leader and founder of the New Jerusalem Church, Bishop J.Y. Adu, has disclosed that gospel musician Yaw Sarpong is still unaware of the passing of his close associate, Maame Tiwaa, due to concerns about his health and emotional reaction.

Speaking in a recent interview on Top Radio, Bishop Adu explained that the family and caretakers have struggled to find the right moment to break the news to the ailing musician.

“Up until now, we’ve not been able to tell Yaw Sarpong that Tiwaa is dead. We don’t even know how to inform him because we fear his reaction to her death. He has confidence in the woman so much,” he said.

He revealed that Yaw Sarpong’s deep trust and reliance on Tiwaa makes the situation even more delicate.

According to him, the musician recently refused to eat unless Tiwaa was present.

“When they prepared food yesterday and he was served, he said he was waiting for Tiwaa before he would eat. According to him, if he ate without her, she would get angry,” he narrated.

He stated that the team intentionally shielded him from online reports about her death, fearing that learning the news abruptly could worsen his condition.

“He doesn’t know that the woman is dead and we can’t break the news to him because he’s not too well to know about her demise.

“The media didn’t help us at all for circulating the news so fast. If he was online, he would have seen whatever was going on, which would have been a big problem for us,” he lamented.

Bishop Adu noted that although Tiwaa’s family visited Yaw Sarpong’s home, he advised them not to inform him immediately due to the malaria he was battling at the time.

“Tiwaa’s family came to Yaw Sarpong’s house but I told them not to inform him, due to the malaria he was battling with,” he shared.

He continued, “He wouldn’t eat when we told him and it would bring another problem to us. All this while he has not seen the woman, he thinks she has gone to perform at a show.”

He emphasized that Tiwaa had been a strong pillar in Yaw Sarpong’s life and welfare.

“She used to perform band so she would get money to prepare food for Yaw Sarpong. She had been of great help to him, at least to what I saw,” Bishop Adu added.
