    As it happens, we have the death penalty in our prisons. Not merely an appalling number of suicides all the time, but incidents like the recent death of Ian Huntley.

    Why do we pretend that by putting him in prison among other criminals for the rest of his life, we’re being humane? Wouldn’t it have been better if we had executed him justly and under law, than allowing that to happen to him?

    I’ll tell you what the first thing is you absolutely have to do, and it’s the opposite of what David Lammy is doing in Parliament at the moment.
