The Chairperson of the Lawyers Hub – Kenya, Dr Patricia Adusei-Poku, has underscored the need for Ghanaian girls to develop confidence.
Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb at the She Builds Conference held at the AICC on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Dr Adusei-Poku said that helping young girls build confidence plays a key role in increasing women’s representation across various sectors.
She said this can be achieved by structuring the country’s education system in a way that instills confidence in young girls from an early age.
“… Yes, there’s so much work, there’s more speaking to be done to younger women. And I think it should start within the education ecosystem where now more women have an opportunity to go into education, that there should be more possibility of educating the girl child and encouraging her to have more confidence in herself,” she said.
Dr Adusei-Poku also noted that with confidence, young girls can build strong networks with mentors and become more open to criticism and feedback that can help shape their future paths.
“They can network the confidence to introduce themselves to give positive feedback and even take constructive criticism about how to take a shift. They should be willing to take a sidestep to then move up or to connect with mentors, potential mentors,” she stated.
Dr Adusei-Poku added; “These opportunities need to be built into our education system to put more confidence in our young people. I’ve seen it happen in Europe and in other parts of the world where girls don’t see themselves below the boy or the male contemporary. So, we need to build more confidence in our girl children.”
The conference, organised by the Academic Woman Foundation, brought together prominent women leaders from various sectors, including entrepreneurship, engineering, law, and high-profile government positions, to inspire young women.
