Liverpool captain, Virgil Van Dijk

Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk has said that his team needs to sign an outright striker to give the team balance upfront and score more goals.

He explained that since Darwin Nunez moved to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, the team now lacks efficiency in attack, which needs to be resolved before the new season begins.

The Dutch defender also cited the departure of Colombian winger Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich as another setback that the team needs to address before the summer transfer window closes.

When a journalist asked if the team needs a new striker after the Liverpool-Crystal Palace game, he replied, “We just lost Darwin. He went to Saudi. We need to replace those attacking options. I think there’s room for an attacker to strengthen us. Let’s see what the window brings…”

His comment comes after Crystal Palace secured their first-ever Community Shield after a thrilling 3-2 penalty shootout win over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on August 10, 2025.

The eagerly contested match saw both sides exchange leads in an action-packed 90 minutes before the Eagles held their nerve from the spot to claim the coveted trophy.
