Musician-turned-Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame A Plus, has called for more common sense to be applied in certain government practices in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, A Plus suggested that a Ministry of Common Sense be established to help address inefficiencies within government institutions.

He lamented that Ghanaians often blame politicians for the country’s issues when, in reality, the public and civil service sectors are largely responsible.

“There should be a Ministry of Common Sense because a lot of things happening in this country simply do not make sense.

“People are quick to blame politicians, but the main problems are within the civil service and public service. Have you ever seen a politician working at the passport office or the licensing office? Yet, those are the places where the issues lie,” he lamented.

A Plus further noted that individuals who attempt to reform these institutions often face significant resistance and, in some cases, are even forced out of office.

“If you are a politician trying to fix issues in these institutions, they will find a way to kick you out—just like they did to Dr. Dampare.”

Citing the case of over 1,000 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that were allegedly declared missing at Tema Port, A Plus questioned the rationale behind selling some of these containers to private individuals.

“Look at the issue with ECG. The government imports certain items but cannot afford to pay duties to itself. As a result, the government seizes its own items and then sells them to private individuals. Where is the sense in that?” he asked.
