Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has revealed that the technical team has been reaching out to certain players to represent the national team, but their efforts have been unsuccessful.

According to him, some of these dual-nationality players have been pursued since 2021, yet they have consistently ignored calls and declined to engage with the team’s concerns.

He further explained that when contacted, some players made it clear that they were not interested in playing for the national team at the time.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, Addo noted that players willing to switch their nationality to play for the Black Stars will be assessed when the time is right.

“In general, we will look at each case individually. Without naming names, there are players we’ve been chasing since I became coach in 2021 who didn’t respond to calls or didn’t want to come. It’s very difficult to generalize, so we have to evaluate each case separately,” he said.

Meanwhile, the coach previously clarified that selection for dual-nationality players will be based on performance and, most importantly, commitment ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

English players of Ghanaian descent, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah, are reportedly interested in playing for the Black Stars despite having declined the opportunity in the past.
