Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has reacted to speculation that he will win the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026 (TGMA 2026) Artist of the Year, along with other top honours.

Speaking during an interview on Hitz FM on November 10, 2025, Black Sherif was told that he was being tipped to win the penultimate award.

“We deserve it, don’t you think?” he replied confidently, prompting laughter from others in the room.

He added that earning the awards would serve as a validation for his fans and the hard work they put into supporting him.

“My fans will be happy. And the award, if I want it, I want it for the fans. It is a validation for them. My own validation is in the music I compose,” he said.

He emphasised that while awards are meaningful, his primary focus remains on creative integrity and the connection he shares with his audience.

Black Sherif has emerged over the past few years as one of Ghana’s most influential artistes, blending highlife, hip-hop and drill with emotionally rich storytelling.

His rise to prominence has earned him nominations and wins both locally and internationally.

His first studio album, The Villain I Never Was, released in 2022, was a critical hit worldwide, debuting at No. 12 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.

His second album, Iron Boy, released in 2025, became the first Ghanaian album to spend two full weeks in the US Apple Music Top 50.

It set a record for most daily streams for a Ghanaian album on Spotify, peaking at No. 10 on the US World Albums Chart and No. 5 on the Nigerian Top 100.
