Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is NDC's National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is NDC’s National Chairman

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has appealed to party supporters who are yet to receive appointments to exercise patience and remain calm, as he explains why fewer appointments are expected under the NDC government.

Speaking during a gathering at Winneba in the Effutu Constituency on February 12, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah acknowledged the frustrations of some members but explained that the Mahama cannot appoint everybody into the DCE position at one particular time.

“I am aware that some of you are unhappy because you did not get to be appointed to any position upon our return to power., This is understandable. It is the reason why I am embarking on this ‘Thank You Tour’, to explain issues for your understanding.

“The challenge is that given the number of appointments that the constitution permits President Mahama to make, not all members of the NDC can be taken care of. So be patient. There is no need to be angry with the party,” he pleaded with party faithful.

The National Chairman of the NDC, who is in the Central Region for a ‘Thank You Tour’, further explained that the party had criticised the large number of ministers under Nana Akufo-Addo.

He noted that while drafting their manifesto, they collectively agreed to campaign on a promise to reduce the number to 60.

He urged party faithful to understand that with the reduced numbers, not everyone can be appointed.

“You will recall that we all complained about the 125 ministers under Akufo-Addo’s government. That is why we promised to cut it down to 60. This has been done, which means only few people can be appointed at a time,” Nketiah said.

He encouraged members who feel overlooked to follow laid-down procedures in addressing their concerns instead of directing anger at the party.

“You have elected a good president who is doing a good job. Everyone acknowledges this fact, including some members of the opposition. So, I urge you to be patient with the government. If you have any concerns that have not been addressed yet. There is time for everything. Your concerns will be addressed. All you need to do is to channel them through the right quarters and it will be resolved,” he assured.

“It was our collective decision that Akufo-Addo’s 125 ministerial appointments were too many. Our government will make 60 appointments, so don’t blame Mahama if you don’t get one” — NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah told party members during his Central Region tour. #ChannelOneNews #ChannelOneTV #GhanaNews
