Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has set his sights on a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team is heading to the tournament with ambition rather than mere participation in mind.

The Black Stars, four-time African champions, will make their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, which will be jointly staged by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Having suffered group-stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 editions in Brazil and Qatar, respectively, the squad is determined to rewrite the narrative this time around.

“Our main goal is to go far in the World Cup and to show the world that African football is feared,” Owusu told Flashscore.

The AJ Auxerre midfielder stressed that Ghana’s objective goes beyond simply making up the numbers.

“We won’t go there just to participate; we want to perform with all humility and show the world what Ghana can do,” he added.

Drawn in Group L, Ghana will face Panama, England, and Croatia in the opening round. The Black Stars kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England six days later. They will conclude the group phase with a clash against Croatia on June 27.

In preparation for the tournament, Ghana is scheduled to regroup in March for friendly matches against Austria and Germany, before wrapping up their build-up with a fixture against Mexico in May.
