Some African football greats converged in Togo over the weekend to celebrate Togolese football legend Emmanuel Adebayor, who was officially bowing out of the game.

Emmanuel Adebayor announced his retirement in March 2023, but his official send-off game was played on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

The game was part of days of entertainment fused with sports as celebrities and football stars converged in Lome to celebrate the former Arsenal man.

Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan, Nigerian legends Nwankwo Kanu and Jay Jay Okocha, and Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o all featured in the event.

Ahead of the game, there was a major concert which featured Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and a host of African musicians.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who scored 32 goals in 85 games for his country, finished his career in his homeland at Semassi.

Only three African players have scored more Premier League goals than Adebayor’s 97: Chelsea’s Didier Drogba (104), former Liverpool and Southampton winger Sadio Mane (111), and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah (131).

Emmanuel Adebayor played for Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Tottenham, and a host of clubs in Europe.
