A video has emerged showing the former Assemblyman for Denkyira Obuasi in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, William Baah, leaving the court premises after being acquitted and discharged.

Baah was previously sentenced to life imprisonment for abetting the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama.

Major Mahama’s death: The full story

In a video shared on Facebook by GH One on Thursday, November 20, 2025, Baah and another individual are seen wearing white shirts and black trousers, with a white powdery substance smeared on their heads to signify victory.

They were escorted by prison officers while cameramen followed behind. Attempts to get Baah to speak after the Court of Appeal’s decision were unsuccessful.

Baah was acquitted in a unanimous judgment on Thursday, November 20, 2025, by a three-member panel.

The panel held that the trial judge, Justice Mariama Owusu, then a Justice of the Supreme Court sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court Judge, misdirected the jury, leading to the guilty verdict against the assemblyman.

Baah was among twelve individuals implicated in the trial concerning the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama. He and several others were sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Major Mahama tragically lost his life in a lynching incident at Denkyira Obuasi on May 29, 2017, while on duty, after he was reportedly mistaken for an armed robber.

Following the incident, more than fifty suspects were arrested, with fourteen eventually selected for prosecution. Among them were William Baah, then-Assemblyman for Denkyira Obuasi; Bernard Asamoah (also known as Daddy); Kofi Nyame (alias Abortion); Akwasi Boah; Kwame Tuffour; Joseph Appiah Kubi; Michael Anim; and Bismarck Donkor.

The remaining defendants included John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning, Emmanuel Badu, Bismarck Abanga, and Kwadwo Anima.
