An emotional scene unfolded at the Takoradi residence of Naval Lieutenant Ewuradwoa Kumi-Kyeremah, widow of the late Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu, one of the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic Z9 military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a video circulating on social media, Lt. Kumi-Kyeremah, a psychologist at the 2nd Garrison in Takoradi, is seen weeping in her military uniform while seated in a chair.
Standing solemnly beside her is the Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, flanked by senior military officers, offering words of comfort and support.
Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu was one of three Air Force officers who perished in what is now being referred to as “Black Wednesday” accident.
The fallen officers and government officials were on a national assignment, en route to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) at Black Park, near the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region.
The crash claimed the lives of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, former Central Regional Minister and Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate.
In addition to Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu, the helicopter’s crew also included Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
