Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen was at the center of a controversy during Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 win over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on January 5, 2025.
The lethal forward scored a brace, with Ademola Lookman providing an assist to boost his goal tally in the competition.
However, tensions flared in the 63rd minute when Osimhen angrily confronted the Atalanta winger, throwing his hands around and appearing to warn him about something that was not made public.

Despite teammates urging him to calm down, Osimhen ignored them and even brushed off the hand of one teammate who tried to intervene.
Shortly after the former Napoli striker walked away, Nigerian players approached Lookman and advised him to ignore the incident and stay focused on the game.
This heated moment became the major talking point after the match across the continent, with fans expressing disappointment in Osimhen’s behavior.
About the Game
Nigeria stormed into the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFCON with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fes.
The Super Eagles’ pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman curled home from Akor Adams’ cutback to break the deadlock.
Five minutes later, Osimhen doubled the advantage, finishing after Alex Iwobi’s incisive play through midfield released Lookman, whose ball across took a deflection off Adams.
Osimhen made it 3-0 early in the second half, tapping in from Lookman’s clever ball across from the left at the back post to score his second of the night.
Adams capped a fine individual display by firing in Nigeria’s fourth in the 75th minute after more good work from Lookman.
Nigeria, who could have added more, now await Algeria or DR Congo in their quarter-final tie in Marrakech.
