Popular Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, commonly known as Freezy Macbones, has declined to fight an opponent for the National Lightweight title belt.

According to Freezy, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) offered him an unqualified opponent identified as Worldwide.

Speaking after his win over Francis Manda on Sunday, November 24, 2024, he highlighted the unfair treatment in Ghanaian boxing, adding that his opponent had not met the required number of fights to qualify for a national title challenge.

“I got an opportunity to fight for the WBO African title, but I dropped out because I haven’t had enough fights. So how can a guy who hasn’t had up to nine or ten fights get the chance to fight a guy who has worked so hard to reach nine fights?

“When I was at four fights, I didn’t get this opportunity to fight for the national title. Let’s be real,” he stated.

Freezy’s fight with Francis Manda was initially sanctioned as a national title bout, however, the GBA later announced that the title would no longer be on the line after making changes.

The president of the GBA, Abraham Neequaye, insisted that the bout had been sanctioned by the association and would proceed as scheduled.

“It is time now. The GBA is mandating this fight between Freezy and his opponent. We are putting the national title on it. The GBA is paying for the national title, and they have to fight this time,” he declared at the Bukom Arena after the Frezzy-Manda fight.

A further explanation about the bout indicated that the opponent in question had made an Olympic Games appearance and, therefore, did not need to meet the required number of fights to qualify for the national title.
