The Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch has undergone a remarkable transformation, turning lush green barely a month after concerns were raised about its unplayable state.

At the start of August 2025, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, described the Kumasi pitch as “not fit to host any game” after leading an inspection team to the facility.

At the time, images showed the surface looking yellowish and lifeless, sparking widespread worry about its readiness for the new Ghana Premier League season.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah revealed then that turf experts from KNUST and experienced groundsman Frank Boahin had been engaged to resuscitate the pitch, stressing that the NSA could not guarantee immediate improvement but was committed to restoring the venue.

Fast-forward to late August 2025, and the picture has changed dramatically. Fresh images now show the playing surface in an all-green condition, with the turf looking far healthier than it did weeks ago.

The revival comes as a boost for Asante Kotoko, who had requested to use the Baba Yara Stadium as their home ground for the 2025/26 campaign.

Although experts have cautioned against speculation, the visible progress suggests that the pitch is close to meeting competitive standards, a development that will also be a relief to Bibiani GoldStars ahead of their continental fixtures.
