Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi, netted an incredible free-kick to give Inter Miami a 2-1 victory over FC Porto in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on June 19, 2025.

The Argentine star curled the set piece into the top right corner in the second half at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, helping Miami become the first US side to claim a win in the tournament.

Samu Aghehowa had given the Portuguese team the lead from the penalty spot in the eighth minute, piling pressure on their opponents.

In the second half, Venezuelan midfielder Telasco Segovia levelled the score for Miami two minutes into the game, sparking great celebrations among the players and fans.

Heading into the end of the game, Messi’s free-kick goal salvaged the team from another draw that could have spelled doom for the team.

After two games, Inter Miami are at par with Porto with four points, occupying one of the top positions; while Al Ahly and Porto have one point each.

Legendary footballer David Beckham’s Inter Miami will be looking forward to qualifying for the knockout stage as they face Palmeiras in the last game.
