Paintsil celebrating a goal

Ghanaian international, Joseph Paintsil, lit up the stage once again in Major League Soccer with a brilliant solo effort, but his strike wasn’t enough to save LA Galaxy from a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The game burst into life just before halftime when Jordi Alba opened the scoring for Miami in the 43rd minute, capitalising on sustained pressure down the left flank.

Galaxy, however, responded after the break through Paintsil, who produced a moment of individual brilliance in the 59th minute.

The winger picked up the ball on the left side, danced past two Miami defenders with quick feet, and calmly slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper to draw his side level. It was a goal that underlined his growing reputation for delivering in big moments.

But Inter Miami’s stars proved decisive later. Messi, introduced at halftime to a raucous ovation, tilted the match back in Miami’s favour in the 84th minute, finishing off a flowing move to restore the lead.

Just five minutes later, his long-time teammate, Luis Suarez, put the result beyond doubt, scoring in the 89th minute to seal a 3-1 victory for the hosts.

Paintsil’s strike was his fifth goal of the 2025 MLS campaign, to go with multiple assists in 19 appearances, further highlighting his importance to LA Galaxy’s attack.

His moment of brilliance offered hope, but Galaxy ultimately fell short against a Miami side powered by its world-class frontline.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resuming in September 2025, Paintsil’s qualities could prove crucial for the Black Stars in the months ahead.
