    Abdul-Rasheed Saminu is Ghana's 100m record holder Abdul-Rasheed Saminu is Ghana’s 100m record holder

Abdul-Rasheed Saminu delivered another statement performance on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, after finishing second in the men’s 100m at the Gyulai István Memorial in Budapest, Hungary.

The 27-year-old clocked 10.01 seconds, crossing the line behind Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who won the race with 9.95 seconds.

Saminu outpaced a world-class field that included African sprint heavyweights Akani Simbine of South Africa and Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya.

It was Saminu’s first-ever race on the European circuit, coming just two months after concluding his collegiate season with the NCAA Championships in the United States.

The Ghanaian speedster has enjoyed a breakout 2025 season, smashing the national record twice, first with 9.86 seconds at the end of May, then lowering it to 9.84 seconds seven weeks later, the seventh-fastest time in the world this year.

The former University of Ghana student faced an elite lineup in Budapest, headlined by Thompson, the world’s fastest man with a personal best of 9.75 seconds, alongside Africa’s fastest-ever sprinter Omanyala, veteran American Ronnie Baker, Nigerian Kanyinsola Ajayi, and the Jamaican duo Ackeem Blake and Rohan Watson.
